2025-2026 Programme Participants

Colm Peelo
Colm is enthusiastic and determined, motivated by improving patient experiences and outcomes in clinical medicine. He graduated top of his class in the BSc Psychology at Maynooth University and MSc Clinical Neuroscience at University College London (UCL). His desire to work with patients brought him back to Ireland after two years teaching and volunteering in China and Southeast Asia. He has since contributed to clinical teams in diverse settings, from neurorehabilitation to child psychology and multidisciplinary neurology services.
Recognising the power of data to uncover meaningful clinical insights in these roles, he pursued a PhD in Clinical Medicine from Trinity College, Dublin (TCD). Colm’s research involved patients with Motor Neurone Disease and Huntington’s disease, exploring cognitive and behavioural features, as well as susceptibility traits in at-risk individuals. He has contributed to global studies like Enroll-HD and presented his work internationally and in peer-reviewed journals. Wanting to coalesce his clinical and technical with a passion for the brain, medicine, and technology, Colm joined EIT Health’s Ageing_Brain PhD School in 2021 to learn from their network of Europe-wide researchers and entrepreneurs working in healthcare innovation. Seeking to move his career into this arena, he trained in medical device design and regulation. Armed with these experiences, he helped develop and implement a remote-monitoring platform for patients while working in the National MND Service in Beaumont Hospital. Outside work, Colm is fuelled by adventure, from trekking in Georgia to learning Chinese in DaLian and participating in adventure races. He applies this same energy to his professional pursuits. Deeply aware of the transformative impact that patient-centred, needs-led innovation can have in improving the lives of many, he is excited to be bringing his experiences to the BioInnovate fellowship, confident about the opportunities it offers to grow within Ireland’s dynamic MedTech landscape.
