Ciarán O’Sullivan

BSc MSc

Ciarán holds a BSc in Product Design and an MSc in Medical Device Design. After completing his masters in 2010, he joined Movement Industrial Design in Dublin, contributing to early-stage concept development for both innovative start-ups and major multinational medical device companies.

Driven by a desire to experience the full product lifecycle, Ciarán moved to Apica Cardiovascular in Galway as a Research and Development Engineer, where he played a pivotal role in the development of cutting-edge cardiac access devices until the company’s acquisition by Thoratec in 2014. Following this, Ciarán expanded his expertise at Vascular Solutions, where he focused on the development of vascular access devices and accessories. Most recently, Ciarán has been with Signum Surgical, a BioInnovate alumni company, developing a revolutionary device for treating Anal Fistula. His involvement spans the entire product development process, from initial concept design through to verification, validation, manufacturing, and clinical trials. In July 2024, the device successfully received FDA de Novo clearance and launched commercially in the U.S in July 2025. Ciarán is also listed on multiple patents related to fistula treatment, solidifying his expertise in the field. He is now eager to leverage his extensive experience in medical device development to identify and address unmet clinical needs as part of the BioInnovate program and is excited to work with like-minded individuals in a cross-functional team. Outside of work, Ciarán enjoys spending time with his two young boys and enjoys a round of golf when time allows.
