Identify

The Identify phase focuses on understanding the healthcare environment and discovering unmet healthcare needs. Teams take part in clinical immersion, that involves observing patient treatment pathways,   to identify pain points or gaps and interacting with healthcare providers, patients and other stakeholders, ultimately observing major healthcare problems that prompt the question ‘Surely there’s a better way?’

During this hands-on observation phase, participants gather hundreds of potential unmet needs without immediately judging or prioritising them. The next step is a rigorous filtering process where each need is objectively evaluated. This includes analysing the stakeholders involved, the potential for improving patient care, and the cost savings to the healthcare system. The process involves an iterative deep dive into the most promising needs, culminating in identifying the two or three most significant ones that, if addressed, could have a transformative impact on health outcomes.
